GATE 2016

WHAT IS GATE?


Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2016 will be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays between 30th of  January to 07th of Febraury.The gate 2016 is to be organised by Indian Institute of Science(IISc).

WHY GATE?


Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering conducted for Admission to Postgraduate Courses (Master's and Doctoral) with MHRD and other Government Scholarships / Assistantships in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science are open to those who qualify in GATE. The GATE score is also used by some PSUs for their recruitment. GATE 2016 score will be valid for a period of THREE YEARS ONLY from the date of announcement of results.



ELIGIBILITY


Only the following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE :

  •  Eligibility Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  •  Bachelor’s degree holders of Architecture (Five years course) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree holders of Four-year program in Science (B.S.) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  •  Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  •  Holders of Four-year Integrated Master’s degree (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology and those in the second or higher year of such programs.
  •  Holders of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree in Engineering / Technology and those in the fourth or higher year of such programs.
  •  Holders of Five-year integrated M.Sc. or Five year integrated B.Sc./M.Sc. degree and those in the final year of such programs.
  •  Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A of AMIE or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

PATTERN OF GATE 2016:

Examinations for all the papers will be conducted as Computer Based Tests only.


HOW TO APPLY?

All candidates must apply ONLINE. Further details and ONLINE application form can be obtained by accessing any of the GATE/JAM zonal websites (or by scanning the image below using a QR reader facility that is available on many mobile phones).

 

APPLICATION FEE:

ALL THE CANDIDATES HAVE TO  APPLY ONLY ONLINE.

  • 750 for the SC / ST / PwD category candidates.
  •   750 for women candidates.
  •  1500 for all other candidates. 
The application fee has to be paid only online either through e-challan or through net banking.

GATE 2014


About GATE 2014

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATEis an all India examination which primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. The GATE score  reflects a relative performance of a candidate. The score is used for admissions in post-graduate engineering programmes (eg. M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies.  The score may also used by Public sector units like (  BHEL, ONGC ,DRDO , BEL , NTPC etc)for employment screening purposes.


  GATE is jointly conducted  by seven IITs  and IISc  Bangalore. There are 8 zones and the corresponding administrative institutes are:





The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2014 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and is designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2014.



Financial Assistance

A valid GATE score is essential for obtaining a financial assistance during Masters programmes . Institution supported by the MHRD or other Government organizations.  To avail the financial assistance (scholarship), the candidate must first secure admission to a programme in these Institutes, by a procedure that could be different for each institute.  Qualification in GATE is also a minimum requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organizations. The amount will be Rs8000 per annum.


However, candidates with a Master’s degree in {Engineering/Technology/Architecture} may seek admission to relevant Doctoral programmes with scholarship/assistantship without appearing in the GATE examination.

 

Changes in GATE 2014


There are big changes in GATE 2014. These are the following changes made this year.
  • 1.       This year  all the 21 subject papers will be conducted by  ONLINE computer based test: AE, AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CS , CY,EC, EE,  GG, IN , MA, ME, MN, MT, PH, PI, TF, XE, and XL.
  • 2.      Female candidates  are exempted from paying the application fee, as required by MHRD, Govt. of India.
  • 3.      All candidate related information and grievance redressal will be available in a single GATE Online Applicant Interface.
  • 4.      Soft copies of photograph and signature must be uploaded during online application (This is in addition to sending recent photograph of applicant with signed application).
  • 5.      A new formula will be used for calculating the GATE score.
  • 6.      Biometric information (Photograph and fingerprint) may be captured on the day of the examination for randomly selected candidates.


Eligibility



1.  B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Archcompleted or final year students
2.  Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer         Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programmes..
3.  Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology
4.  Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
5.  Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institute of Engineers (India); AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers (India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
6.  Pre-final year students are not eligible to write GATE 2014- 15. 




Structure of GATE 2014

      A candidate can apply for only ONE of the 21 papers listed in Table  given  below. The syllabus for each of the papers is  given  separately. Making a choice of the appropriate  paper  during    GATE    application   is  the responsibility  of  the  candidate . Some  guidelines  in  this  respect  are  suggested  below.The  candidate  is expected to appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of his/her qualifying degree. The candidate is, however, free to choose any paper according to his/her admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the institutions in which he/she wishes to seek admission.
